  1. Q

When is does open enrollment for Covered California start?

    A

Open enrollment in California starts November 1st. 2020 for renewals (existing clients) and for new accounts (new clients). The start date for Medicare Part D (Medicare Drug Coverage) is Oct. 15th.
  2. Q

I got a letter and it said it ended on November 4th?

    A

Nope. What the letter meant was that if you’re not expecting anything to change in your income or household size your account will automatically renew on November 4th IF the plan is still available.
  3. Q

If I’m not expecting any changes and I want to keep my plan should I still contact Vanessa?

    A

Yes, it’s a good idea to contact Vanessa rather than just letting your plan automatically renew. Plans change what areas they cover and Vanessa will know if your current plan is still available.
  4. Q

Do I qualify for Covered California?

    A

That depends on what your taxable income for next year will be. If it’s too low, Vanessa can still sign you up for MediCal.
  5. Q

How do I know what my taxable income will be next year?

    A

It’s based on what you estimate your MAGI will be.
  6. Q

    What is MAGI?

    A

More or less it’s your Modified Adjusted Gross Income plus any social security or taxable income your household may receive – what you fill in on line 4 of form 1040EZ, line 21 of form 1040A or line 37 of 1040. Bring this in to your appointment and Vanessa will help you figure out the rest.
  7. Q

When does open enrollment for Covered California end?

    A

The end date for Open Enrollment for Covered California has not been released yet. It should be around the end of January, 2020. We will update this entry when the final date is released.
  8. Q

I have a Medicare Supplement, do I need to come in during open enrollment?

    A

In California, open enrollment Supplement is during your birth month.
  9. Q

Do I have to change my Part D during open enrollment?/ Can I keep my Part D during open enrollment?

    A

Part D providers change their fees and the medicines they cover every year. You should ABSOLUTELY check and see who is offering the best value for your money and who is covering any medicine you take.
  10. Q

How do I find out which Part D provider I should use?

    A

You will receive a letter from Vanessa with full color instructions showing you how to easily navigate the medicare.gov website. Also included in the letter is a number you can call to reach Medicare and have them sign you up. But you can make an appointment with Vanessa to walk you through it too.
  11. Q

    A

It ends on December 7th, though due to processing time Vanessa may stop taking part D appointments on December 5th.

    A

Peggy is Vanessa’s assistant and does all the background work so Vanessa is free to help you!
  13. Q

    I just have a quick question…

    A

This time of year, Vanessa’s schedule is very full, so she may not be able to respond to your question the same day unless it’s an emergency. If it’s a simple question – like what plan do I have, then Peggy can help you figure it out. If it’s a complex question, e-mails to Vanessa vanessa@ignaciohealth.com are best.
  14. Q

Has my Open Enrollment gone through yet?

    A

We will send you a letter with your enrollment details as soon as it’s gone through.
  15. Q

I have just moved to the area and have Medicare Advantage. What should I do?

    A

Call Peggy and she’ll make an appointment for you to meet with Vanessa so you can get a supplement plan that works with area healthcare providers.
