Navigating Medicare
There is no ‘One Size Fits All’ option for Medicare. Everyone’s needs and finances will be slightly different. The options available in one county may not be available in another. The basic components of Original Medicare are Parts A and B. Part A is coverage for in-patient Hospital and B is Medical. There are many ways to add coverage to the basics that Medicare provides. Choose from the options below to learn more about your options. Please note we do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
- New to Medicare
Medicare can be confusing. It has Parts A, B, C and D. Do you need all of these? No. You can have Parts A & B Original Medicare and a Part D plan OR a Part C Advantage Plan. The first thing you will need to know is: do you need to sign up or is your enrollment automatic. If you are already drawing Social Security, you will be enrolled in both Parts A and B and your card will be sent to you in the mail two or three months before your birth month. If you are not yet drawing social security, you will need to enroll in Medicare. You can usually do this online HERE at the SSA website. We are happy to guide you through this process- please make an appointment. The time to do this is in the 3 months before your birth month. You will also have your birth month and 3 months following but this will delay your benefits. Have questions about what happens after you have your card?
- Supplements
Medicare Supplement plans (also known as Medi-gap) are designed by Medicare to complement Original Medicare Parts A & B. Carriers do not have the ability to change the coverage design and do not have any bearing on your network (except in the case of ‘extra’ benefits). We work with you to find you the best plan to cover your needs and fit in your budget. You are always working within the network of Medicare. You have the first 6 months of your Medicare coverage to enroll in one without any health questions or underwriting. After that, there may be other times, depending on where you live, that you can change your Supplement without a health review. Please make an appointment with us to learn more and go over your options.
- Part D plans
Part D is coverage for prescription medication you get through a pharmacy. There are specific times you can enroll in a Part D plan. The enrollment windows can be found HERE. If you are within an enrollment window and know what you want, you can review some of your options and enroll HERE otherwise I recommend contacting us and making an appointment.
- Advantage plans
Advantage plans are an alternative to Original Medicare. They are also known as Part C Medicare. You may have seen ads on TV, read articles about them and have most likely gotten reams of mail concerning these plans. It is a complicated subject, please make an appointment!
